For the love of fragrance
“There are scented candles and there are scented candles…I am very fussy” said one of our customers recently when she lit a candle from her latest order. Luckily she loved it!
We love getting customer feedback like this because it shows us that all the time we spend researching fragrances and blending and mixing them with our special wax is all worth while.
So why are we a nation so obsessed with scented candles? Since lockdown thousands of people across the country have taken up candle making. Many see this as nothing more than a relaxing and fulfilling hobby while others, like us, have launched successful small businesses during one of the bleakest times in living memory.
The UK may be awash with chandlers (the official name for candle makers) but we see this as a very good thing. Candle making is a relaxing, stress busting and creative activity that results in beautiful products that fill our homes with gorgeous fragrances. It is very satisfying and an enriching process to learn and immerse yourself in.
We started out making candles for ourselves and then the idea just developed - now we are partnering with a major UK charity to make candles specifically for them and we are also talking to retailers who are interested in stocking our products. There really is a candle and a fragrance for everyone and during lockdown when we have all needed our homes to be comforting, cocooning sanctuaries, being able to fill our homes with good, quality fragrances has become part of our daily ritual.
Fragrance is powerful and our ability to identify with it even more so. Fragrances and aromas bring back memories and take us to places where we feel calm and relaxed or rejuvenated and invigorated. Our sense of smell is linked so closely with our emotions that just by lighting a simple scented candle we can start to benefit almost immediately. When we are melting the wax and adding our fragrances and then individually pouring our candles, we know that when they are lit in the homes of our customers they will be hugely beneficial to their wellbeing and that the effort and time that we put into making them is having a lovely, positive impact. What a great way to spend a working day!
